CCPA recommends NEPRA Rs 0.657 per unit increase in power tariff

March 22, 2021 (MLN): The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has proposed an increase of Rs 0.6573/kWh over the reference fuel charges of Rs 4.1414/kWh under fuel price adjustment for the month of February 2021 for Ex-WAPDA Discos.

In this regard, a public hearing to consider the proposed adjustment will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, by NEPRA in which all interested or affected parties are invited to raise objections as permissible under the law at a public hearing.

As per the petition submitted by CPPA with NEPRA, the total energy generation from all sources in February 2021 was recorded at 7,281.01 GWh while the total transmission losses stood at 250.92 GWh. Hydropower plants contributed the highest share of 27.93% or 2,033.93 GWh to the overall generation during February 2021. Coal-based power plants accounted for 26.14% or 1,902.98 GWh and RLNG based is for 17.46% or 1,271.04 GWh. The cost of Coal and RLNG based electricity was Rs 7.0621 and Rs 8.8252 per unit respectively.

Moreover, 906.37 GWh or 12.45% of electricity was generated from local gas-based power plants with a per-unit cost of Rs 7.7156. The total generation from Nuclear sources was 791.91 GWh accounting for 10.88% of total generation and its cost of electricity was Rs 1.0071 per unit.

The Baggase based energy contributed about 1.36% or 99.27GWh of electricity at a cost of Rs 5.9822 per unit. The percentage share of Wind generation was 1.35% or 98.11 GWh with a zero-generation cost.

The RFO based energy contributed about 1.06% or 77.31 GWh to the national grid at a most expensive fuel cost of Rs11.8971 per unit. Solar-based electricity contributed 0.78% or 57.06 GWh at per unit fuel cost of Rs1.0980.

Meanwhile, the electricity imported from Iran was 0.41% (29.65 GWh) at the price of Rs 9.6960 per unit while 0.18% or 13.37 GWh contribution came from Mixed energy sources with a zero-generation cost.
