Authorized NBP branches to remain open on Sept 29-30 for tax, duty collection

September 27, 2018 (MLN): In order to facilitate the collection of government receipts, duties and taxes, it has been decided that the authorized branches of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), along with field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation will remain open on the weekend, i.e. September 29-30 (Saturday and Sunday).

Banking instruments and cash will be accepted at their counters upto 06:00 P.M. on September 29, 2018 (Saturday) for which a special clearing will be arranged by the National Institutional Financial Technologies (Pvt) Ltd. (NIFT) at 04:00 P.M.

Similarly, authorized branches of NBP as well as field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation (SBP-BSC) will remain open only for collection of Government receipts, duties, taxes upto 08:00 P.M. on September 30, 2018 (Sunday). For this purpose, a special clearing will be arranged by the NIFT at 06:00 P.M. and NBP branches will settle their transactions with respective SBP-BSC field offices / head office until 10:00 P.M. on the same day i.e. September 30, 2018.

All banks, therefore, have been advised by the State Bank to keep their concerned branches open on 29th and 30th September, 2018 (i.e. Saturday and Sunday) till such time that is necessary to facilitate the aforementioned special clearings by NIFT.

Finance Department of the State Bank has further clarified that on both these days, NBP/BSC field offices shall not execute any payment out of government accounts except such payments as relate to payment of FBR taxes and duties out of one government account to another.

FBR has also directed all Chief Commissioners of Inland Revenue to ensure that LTUs/RTOs shall remain open and observe extended working hours till 08:00 pm on Saturday, 29th September, 2018 and till 12:00 mid-night on Sunday, 30th September, 2018 to facilitate the taxpayers in payment of duties and filing of income tax returns statements.
