Asad Umar calls for coordinated efforts for accelerated exploration

January 3, 2020: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Asad Umar has emphasized the need for coordinated efforts for accelerated exploration and development of indigenous mineral resources.

He was chairing a meeting to review the work of Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation and other allied matters in Islamabad on Thursday.

The Minister said that a uniform policy and regulatory framework across the country would be beneficial for attracting investment in the sector.

He said that while minerals are a Provincial subject, the Federal government can help and support the development of the sector, by aligning its various policies towards that objective.

He said both public and private sector should come forward for optimum exploitation of indigenous mineral resources.  

The Minister also chaired a meeting of the Board of Directors of Public-Private Partnership Authority in Islamabad today.

Secretary Communications and Chairman National Highway Authority briefed the Board on various aspects of the Sukkur Hyderabad Motorway Project M-6. 

M6 is a project of NHA, which is proposed to be built on a BOT (build-operate-transfer) basis.
