Pakistan, Japan push skilled workforce cooperation

July 21, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Japan have moved to deepen cooperation on skilled workforce development and labour mobility, with both countries exploring measures to create more employment opportunities for Pakistani professionals in Japan.

The discussions focused on expanding institutional collaboration in skills development, labour mobility, and capacity building, according to a statement issued on Tuesday.

Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening people-to-people ties, recognizing them as a key pillar of bilateral relations. They agreed to enhance practical cooperation that delivers tangible benefits to both countries, according to press release.

Progress was also reviewed on a new Memorandum of Cooperation on Employment for Skill Development, which is expected to provide a stronger institutional framework for facilitating the movement of skilled Pakistani workers to Japan while supporting broader economic cooperation.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan's Ambassador to Japan, Abdul Hameed, and Japan's Minister of Justice, Hiroshi Hiraguchi, on Tuesday.

The discussions reflected the growing momentum in Pakistan-Japan relations and the shared commitment to expanding cooperation across mutually beneficial sectors.
